The company was taken over by the Government of India in 1978, with the management and was closed down in 1975.

Thereafter, the company started incurring losses and its assets were nationalized in 1988 and the present company was incorporated with the name West Bengal Plywood & Allied Products Ltd. and placed under the administrative control of Industrial Reconstruction Department, Government of West Bengal. With the expiry of the period of taking over of the management of the company 26th March 1996, the Government of West Bengal acquired the assets and liabilities of the company.

With the drastic change in Government policy in the matter of feeling trees and stoppage of credit facility by the Forest Directorate and Forest Development Corporation, procurement of principal raw material was gradually becoming more and more difficult.
