SREE SARASWATY PRESS was established in the year 1923 in Barishal (now in Bangladesh) mainly for the propagation of nationalist literature for a speedy end of foreign rule in this country. In the year 1939 the Press shifted to 32, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Calcutta- 700009, West Bengal.
Take over period (1979 to December 1990) :At this stage the Government of West Bengal took over the management of the Company in larger national interest. The Company reopened in January 1980 after which the Company reoriented its priorities away from commercial-type printing to more of security and confidential printing of the Government. The performance of the Press after take-over could not be sustained as there was no fresh capital investment for its modernization. The Company was nationalized in 1989 and the name was subsequently changed to SARASWATY PRESS.

Saraswaty Press is a Public Sector Enterprise under the Public Enterprises & Industrial Reconstruction Department, Government of West Bengal with a record of continuously making profit and paying dividend to the Government.
